I have the sweetest dice bag. A Saco Del Toro. Yes I do have a bulls nut sack as a dice bag. I know you were joking but such a things do exist. And they Rock. Next time I go to Mexico I’ll keep an eye out for them.
Great episode guys! The banter part was particularly funny this episode. I like how Pat brought the curse down on the show in the same way he plays his characters. Sneaky manipulation behind the scenes. Scandalous!
Great show, guys.
I’m usually someone who waits to see what roles other people pick not for party balance, but because I want my character to shine in his own way. If someone else is ‘louder’ than me at the table and has the same abilities as me, I know I’m not going to get to use them as much (we all want to be in the spotlight, right?). I also try to ensure everyone has their own roles when I GM for the same reason (unless of course the plot dictates otherwise).
Cheers! :D
Joel, I can’t even begin to dewcribe how cool that is. Now I really want to get an authentic one.
My daughter is almost 2 years old. She loves dice. We got her a set of big honkin dice she cannot eat and she plays with those a lot. It is actually a good way to teach her numbers. I can set the dice to a certain number and say “what number is that?” and she can tell me (we are up to six now, moving to the d8 soon to keep going)
I have a dice bag for myself that is actually a mesh bag from some camping equipment (a little stove, iirc). Works great. You can see what dice are on the bottom too, if you are looking for a particular one. And it has a nice little sliding clip to keep it closed, and when closed the clip forms a loop with the excess string that can be used to hook onto something or easily held.
My daughter also loves the little glass counters/beads that I use. You guys didnt discuss how to carry your counters around. If you dont play Vampire Masquerade using red beads as blood points, that doesnt count as true play, dont you know?
My dog likes dice too. If I drop one I have to go diving to keep him from trying to eat it.
Most four-legged house pets enjoy seeing the dice because its an unusual shape to them; it makes a weird noise and skitters about like its on some illegal substance. I had mine out once and was messing around with them, and my cat knocked one of my d20s off the table and onto the floor. He jumped down after it to chase it. He stops next to it and looks at me with a, “did I do good?” face. I walk over and just started laughing. Dumb feline rolled a 20.
As for how I make characters, I may have lots of character concepts in mind, but I will try and focus on getting party balance and the (almighty) group template first before worrying about my character. Very rarely will I be the “first striker” amongst my friends unless I have a REALLY strong character concept I want to play.

Arrrhg, “Muscle March” burned my minds eye. I would say that you would be hearing from my lawyer but, I am going to dig out that ten seconds of memory with a rusty ice pick after I submit this comment. Otherwise great show!
When creating a PC, I try not to focus too much on party balance. One of the things I look forward to is seeing how my character will develop over time with respect to the other PCs. As the party goes through adventures and levels up, I like to let my character adapt in order to find party balance during the campaign; taking skills/feats/etc to fill a niche role within the group. I still consider my PC’s background and goals when leveling, but let my character evolve organically based on his/her experiences. Much like personal growth in real life.
Two things. First, I found a box of d6s that is shaped like a d6 which I use for certain games. Second, the two big problems that I face when keep characters are mechanic and party drift. I have played a number of games where an interesting idea was not supported by the mechanics, but it was only obvious after I started playing. The second issues has really been a problem lately. I number of times we create characters together that start out meshing well, but after they begin to develop I am suddenly the odd man out.
when you go out on a camping trip, you should always make sure that you have you are complete with camping equipment ,`*
Character creation:
– I tend to make a character mechanically until something clicks. I don’t like specialized twinks, but I do like something that is functional and off-beat. We play mechanics-heavy games, usually, but with a good amount of RP. Once something clicks: an idea or something, I will then start creating the personality and backstory. Then, I’ll go back to the mechanics and backtrack as much as I need to get the idea functional with the mechanics.
